How To Repair Dents In Wood Veneer Furniture?
I have refinished over 300 dining room chairs for 2 hotels. I learned a lot doing them and have done some other simple wood restorative projects. I have run beyond a very complicated claiming to repair scratch marks on a wood tabular array that were non deep just looked more like indentations. It is the newer products being sold at present that are manufactured rather than the former manner of forest that is finished. I tried to do something with it but found that it is not similar restoring actual wood. Usually these types of manufactured forest furniture are with a satin look and deed more like resin. Is there whatsoever way to repair these types of amercement? Cheers if anyone can steer me in the right direction. – Darlene Betterton
Rob Johnstone: Answering this question is more a bit tricky because information technology is not exactly clear what the nature of the indentations are and what the table is fabricated from. Is information technology a veneer-covered sheet stock of some sort? Does information technology have a catalyzed finish, oil/resin cease — maybe it is even a plastic laminate of some sort. I must confess that your description invokes the idea that these tabletops are a cheaply fabricated production with a super-hard catalyzed finish on the surface. Information technology that is true, then the best reply I can requite you is don't waste product your time on the effort. The results will be poor and not worth the effort. With that said, if you find a dent or indentation you can always try steaming information technology to smashing the fibers and elevator the dent. Put a few drops of water on the dent, put a thin make clean rag over the dent, and apply a clothes iron to turn the h2o in to steam. If it does non piece of work the starting time time, but shows improvement – try information technology a couple more times. This technique works best on solid woods. If the cloth is veneer-covered MDF or particleboard, the consequence will not be good.
Tim Inman: If we could see a picture, it would really help. Otherwise, I experience like a blind homo with no hands trying to solve your problem. So many ways, then little time…
